1°C (34°F) this morning. About what the weather predicted.

Steven from Grand Rapids, MI camped here last night. Showed up right before bed time and shared the tent pad with me. This morning he showed me a picture of an emu he saw on the trail near Pennsylvania. An emu!

Beautiful clear day but cold and breezy. Trail went up to some stunning views.

I crossed paths with a trail crew, out doing some good work for the benefit of us hikers.

Unfortunately the trail also had some sections of road walking. This is expected to be more common up here as the trail dodges around the populated areas.

Still only 4°C (39°F) at 1400 when I stopped for a break to dry the shoes a little. Having some rubbing under the forefoot when walking in the rock fields.

Made it to the double decker Raven Rock shelter (sorry no photo). Met (Bruce) Almighty and his wife Feisty. They are finishing the AT this year after doing the first half last year.

As I walked up they were drying out after getting soaked during a river crossing. Cold day for that business.

Otter showed up later. They are doing a flip-flop, started in Roanoke, VA.

Cold forecast again tonight (-3°C, 27°F). Feels silly to eat and get right in the sleeping bag before the sun is all the way down but too cold to hang out without the extra warmth.
