5°C overnight. Had coffee and trail mix for breakfast, the only other food in the bag is a pack of ramen. At least now its light!
Passed many day hikers. I can smell them now, they smell like dryer sheets. I bet they can smell me too.
One couple stopped me and asked if I knew where they were. I pulled up my offline map and showed them how the AT went to where their car was parked. They thanked me and headed on. Pretty wild that they just had no idea how to get where they were going.
One nice view on the way down. I know the pictures don't capture the full effect but I'll keep giving it a go.
Walked the 11 miles into Duncannon, PA without much issue. Yes the trail literally goes through town. Its a "footpath" not a wilderness trail.
Got checked in at "Kind of Outdoorsy" an outfitter and hostel which has a very misconfigured website so its not even worth linking to.
Met Crazy B, Avalanche, and Smiley who are staying there. Picked out a bunk bed and then made a beeline for food.
Had a quesadilla and a beer flight at Lindgren Craft Brewery for lunch. Came back and the showers were open so I got to rinse off and switch into loaner clothes for my trip to the laundromat.
Many hostels offer loaner clothes which are basically just clothes to wear while you do your laundry. Hikers don't frequently carry extra clothes for this purpose.
Unfortunately I didn't realize the shop part of the hostel closed before I got back from the laundromat. I was concerned about the amount of fuel I had left and was going to pick up some here. Luckily I was able to get in touch with a place a few days up the trail that did have fuel, so I planned to just get it there.
I was able to get some hiking food at the local convenience store. Mostly Knorr Pasta Sides and oatmeal. Not the healthiest but would do for the next few days.
The folks in the hostel went out for dinner at 1800 and I joined them. We ate at the Doyle hotel and I had pierogies and a salad. It was nice to have a vegetable.
Crazy B is a grandmother who started in GA in February. She is going for a full through hike. Smiley and Avalanche started where I did, in Harper's Ferry. Smiley plans to do the whole northern half to complete her journey from 2023.
We all went to bed at sundown as is tradition. A section hiker came in late and woke us all up but that's just how it is.
