Began the day with a trip to the privy. This might be my favorite one so far; it had plenty of fresh air!
Today I chose to wear pants and gators even though it was warm and sunny. The ticks are everywhere, and they are especially prevalent in the grassy parts of the trail. If you look closely you can see them waiting for you (look in front of the flower, sorry for the bad photo but my camera just would not focus on the tick)
Over the course of the day I heard no less than three hikers complain about ticks and felt good about choice despite being sweaty.
Passed some nice mushrooms growing on a log. There has been a lot of rain lately and even more predicted tomorrow.
Walked along the Housatonic river for a bit. Saw a white water kayaking course on some rapids. I was surprised at how vigorous the flow was. The river was wide but easily flowing two to three times faster than I could walk!
The river culminated in waterfalls with a hydroelectric power plant nearby. Outside it a hiker was chatting one of the plant employees. When I got closer I realized it was Sparticus! Obviously I had to go say hello.
After the river walk it was up Mt Prospect. There were a few spots with beautiful views on the way down.
Hiked into Salisbury, CT to pick up my new shoes at the post office. I had organized their shipment back in Philly. These at a half size larger and seem like they fit well. I've continued to get random random blisters and hopefully this change improves things. Look at how much I'd worn the tread down in just 200 miles.
Due to thunderstorms overnight and already being in town for the post office I decided to stay at the local hostel.
Curious George and Base Jumper also staying. Had fun talking shop with George.
Lots of rain predicted tomorrow but at least I'll start the day out dry. I'm not looking forward to breaking in new shoes in the rain.
