The moon was bright overnight and the sky clear. On clear nights its been going down to around 7°C (45°F) which is perfect sleeping weather. Sunrise brought a beautiful day of hiking.
Hiked past a like with some geese in it and then up "Cobble Hill". Seemed like a local attraction. There was a loop trail and parking so there many day hikers out to see the view.
At a road crossing I attempted to visit "The A.T. Stand" listed in the trail guide. Couldn't find it but met a nice couple who was trying to park at the AT road crossing. I showed them where the parking for Cobble Hill was on the map.
I had my heart set on snacks so I asked them for a ride into Tyringham. They obliged, but there was nothing there. A friendly person in town offered me a granola bar which I snacked on and chatted a bit before heading the 0.6 miles back to the trail.
The trail today went through a variety of woods. One part was particularly green with lots of new growth ferns.
I saw a sign about treatment for emerald ash borer beetles. You can read more about it here. The insecticide tool looks like something from a science fiction movie.
Later on I saw two owls. One looked pretty young and the other was hooting up a storm at me. The pictures aren't great but I don't carry a real camera with me on these trips.
At Upper Goose Pond there was a memorial to the private club that owned the land and gifted it to the National Park Service. Really awesome that we have public lands like this for everyone to enjoy.
Always hungry, I stopped at Berkshire Lakeside Lodge which sold me a large muffin before I headed up the final climb for the day. Set up camp near a lake, but the trail didn't have good access to it. I did however notice a very nice Trillium near my tentsite.
