Completed: 577 mi
Today: 21.1 mi
Remaining: 596 mi
Hiking Progress Bar

On the trail by 800. It has been a slower getting started each day because I spend about 20min constructing a bandage for my left foot. The back of my foot seems to be healing, but it is slow and the hiking is painful it if I don't tape it up.

First view of the day at "The Cobbles". You can see Mt. Greylock and its tower in the distance, which was the main event for the day.

After that I hiked down through Cheshire (which the guide helpfully pointed out is pronounced "chesh-er") I stopped to admire the memorial cheese press statue. Apparently John Leland presented "The Big Cheshire Cheese" weighing 1235 lbs to Thomas Jefferson at the White House.

Passed a fun little sign for Reynolds Rock. Yes I climbed it.

Began the long climb up to the top of Mt. Greylock, the highest point in Massachusetts. About halfway I met Purple Rain who is section hiking the entire AT. Almost at the top I passed an idyllic little cabin and pond.

At the top is the Veteran's War Memorial Tower, an imposing structure.

Amazing views that are impossible to capture with the camera

The rest of the day was hiking back down. Passed through the outskirts of a other town. The trail went right through it and almost into this house's back yard. Note the blaze kn the post to the right.

Tented at Sherman Brook campground without much view but nice sounds from the babbling brook.
