Started with a cold breakfast. The mosquitoes were still terrible so I quickly ran out to the bear hang and returned to the tent for cold granola and instant coffee. I don't like using the stove in the tent (or eating inside for that matter).
The trail today crossed Wyman Mountain, Moody Mountain, Old Blue Mountain, and Bemis Mountain. All but the last two had their own full "up and downs". This was another big effort day of hiking.
Got a nice view on Moody.
Pretty funny moment when I spotted a tree that was cut down, but they saved the blaze.
After Moody I had to ford a stream because the stepping stones weren't quite close enough.
But right after crossing I got trail magic! Cheryl was shuttling some hikers from the notch and I just happened to catch her there. She gifted me bananas and grapes. I love some fresh fruit.
Her hikers showed up while I was putting shoes back on: Leaf and Weatherman. They were going into town to resupply and get shoes. Leaf had already hiked Maine and was back to hike it again. He called it "greasy hiking" with all the roots, rocks, and mud. "Maine is the final boss, it throws everything at you".
There is so much moose poop on the trail I'm surprised I haven't seen a moose. It's everywhere. There's also some good lichen growing in and among the plants on the rockier sections.
Ended the day at Bemis Mountain Shelter. I have noticed many of this style with the weird gap in front. But no complaints, happy to have a place to stay.
