The morning was foggy and cool, with light rain on and off after breakfast but never getting too heavy.
At Sabbath Day Pond I passed Candyman who was having a snack. He was still hiking with K-Won and HOP and hoped to catch up to them soon. The pond views were a bit spooky with the far shore lost in the fog.
Saw about two dozen Lady Slipper orchids throughout the day.
Passed a few backpackers heading south. Only one of them confirmed that they were a SOBO (Southbound) through hiker. Pretty cool to see them just getting started. At a road crossing I met K-Won who was trying to hitchhike into town but assured me he was planning on hiking more today.
Arrived at Piazza Rock shelter a little early and puzzled over the map a bit. I had made quick work of the day due it being relatively flat compared to the previous two days of hiking. Finally I decided to push on to take care of some of the upcoming mountain range early.
Before leaving I had to check out the infamous privy. It has two seats and a cribbage board.
Turned out hiking on was a decent choice. As I climbed I got up out of the fog plaguing me all day for some beautiful views from Saddleback Mountain and The Horn. It was cool to see the fog wrapped around the mountains.
Finally descended on Redington Campground which had two tent pads, one of which was worryingly saggy. The other was a bit soft but serviceable. Unclear how maintained this spot is, but it was good enough for me after a long day.
