Hiking Progress Bar

Started the day by packing the tent and heading over to the shelter to have breakfast with the others. We all ended up on the trail around 7. It was foggy over the lake which constrasted with the clear views from the night before.

The ferry service started at 9 so it was an easy hike for the 3.7 miles to the river. As expected the ferry was a dude in a canoe. His name was Matt. Candyman and I crossed together since they only took two at a time.

The hiking then went on a fairly well graded trail that popped over two mountains, both associated with ponds: Pleasant Pond Mountain and Moxie Pond Mountain.

I stopped at Pleasant Pond Mountain for lunch but the black flies were awful so I didn't spend too long there before moving on.

Between the two peaks for the day I crossed a power line meadow. It had a dystopian vibe due to the remains of a blazed tree cut down for clearing.

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot. Nothing is going to get better. It's not.

When I got to Moxie I had decided to try to camp at the top. So I loaded up with water and climbed the 1700 ft to the top. Unfortunately the extra work did not pay off, as the mountain was covered in rocks and delicate lichens which I felt guilty camping on. Luckily still had an amazing view and some really interesting rock formations on the way up.

Ended up at Moxie Pond Lean To. Unexpected light rain gave me pause about tenting, but I went for it anyway. The evening weather turned out sunny and clear. I ate my dinner on the shore of the pond enjoying the views.
