Overnight another hiker showed up late and tucked into the shelter. They were gone by 5:30 when I got up.

While eating breakfast a few rays of sun broke through the clouds and got my hopes up about the weather. It made cloud pond look beautiful.

Unfortunately the day ended up being warm, gray, and extremely damp. As I walked I could feel the suspended water droplets sticking to me.

The trail went over a few mountains with unimaginative names: Fourth Mountain, Mount Three and a Half, Third Mountain, etc. Fourth Mountain Bog had some cool pitcher plants growing in it.

At Three and a Half there was an old plane crash from the 80's. Apparently, the passengers were a father and son who both survived by hiking out after the crash.

I ate so many spiderwebs over the first few hours of hiking. It is unclear to me how that many spiders can build webs across the trail overnight. Eventually I passed my first of many southbounders and the stream of webs stopped, having been taken out by the other hikers.

No views to be had, just the normal fog. After climbing off the ordinal ridge I forded a wide stream. While putting my shoes back on, two SOBO hikers arrived. We talked for a few minutes before I pressed on.

Climbed up Gulf Hagas mountain and made it to Sydney Tappan Campsite a little earlier than planned. With thunderstorms coming in I decided to push for the next shelter.

Over the next few peaks the trail was very well kept. Trees were cut back lending to the smell of fresh pine that was almost omnipresent. Some of the trail even had well organized rock stairs.

On the way off the last peak, in clear weather, I would have been able to see Mount Katahdin in the distance. The Appalachian Trail ends at the peak of Katahdin.

Unfortunately no view of my destination yet due to the fog.

At the Logan Brook shelter there were four other hikers (all SOBO), two of which were staying in the shelter and the others camping. I got settled and we chatted and ate. Heavy rain came in with thunderstorms and lightning around 2030. Really happy to be under a roof.
